Gloria was right

The 90s delivered some of the best movie quotes:

- Get Busy Livin’, or Get Busy Dyin’

- You Can't Handle The Truth!

- Show Me the Money!

- Life Is Like A Box Of Chocolates...

- ABC - Always be closing

But my favourite was by Gloria Perez, of White Men Can't Jump fame. The former Jeopardy winner summarised the last week for me:

"Sometimes when you win, you really lose, and sometimes when you lose, you really win, and sometimes when you win or lose, you actually tie, and sometimes when you tie, you actually win or lose".

Gloria was right. It's all about perspective and reflection. When pitching for business, whether you win, lose or draw, I highly recommend carrying out a win/loss review. It's one of the most useful pieces of work that you can do to improve the understanding of and connection with your customers, review how you operate and ultimately grow your business. If you don't believe me, just ask the master Cian Mcloughlin.

PS: This time, this IS a victim impact statement. I did lose, but for good reasons, and even though I lost (twice - neither time to anyone else), I won (twice), and vitally I stayed true to my value of putting the customer first (twice). But that's a post for another day. And yes, I have done a W/L review.

PPS: If you need to create a win/loss process, or you want some help to review your sales, bids or tender functions, I'd love to help.

PPPS: Bonus points if you can name all the movies - no cheating!
